It was wonderful to see our children embrace the challenge of learning new skills, demonstrating resilience and perseverance. At the end of the day, our school community come together, cheering for each other and celebrating achievements in a wonderful whole school show where everyone showcased their newfound skills and talents.  We cannot wait to see you sharing and practising all the skills that you learnt on the playground at lunchtimes! Well done to everyone for making it such a fun filled-day!

They participated in a round robin of activities including bowling, boccia and curling to earn points. They gave everything a go and did a great job supporting each other. Their amazing team effort meant that Felbridge came 3rd! Well done everyone!

We started off by joining a live assembly, along with many other schools across the country.  The children heard memories of the events 80 years ago, from war veterans and their relatives; the oldest contributor was 108 years old - a truly inspirational gentleman!  We honoured the two-minute silence and watched the flypast over Buckingham Palace, recorded on Bank Holiday Monday.

We were lucky enough to sit in the visitor galleries of both the House of Commons and House of Lords. We listened to debates on the education bill and Parkinson awareness month.

It was exciting to see some of  our current politicians and learn the history of democracy in the United Kingdom. 

A huge thank you to Mrs Sims and Mrs Warland for making the trip possible and well done to the school councillors for representing Felbridge so well. We all had a great day and learnt so much.

A HUGE thank you to all of the members of staff who made the trip happen despite the initial minibus hiccups and ensured that the children had the BEST day! I was incredibly proud of the children's resilience and patience when it came to arranging transport and for fully engaging in the fantastic activities in spite of the heat! We thoroughly enjoyed fire lighting, archaeological excavation, chalk carving and learning a lot of key facts! The children are all looking forward to applying their new knowledge to different activities over the next term.

We had a tour around the garden looking at different habitats for animals and then had a bug hunt and classified the insects we found by the number of legs. As part of our topic we have talked about local heroes with a particular focus on the emergency services. We know how important they are as they help so many people. We've been lucky to have some local heroes visit us! 

Lingfield Fire Service visited us earlier in the term. The firefighters talked to us about fire safety and then showed us their fire engine. We all had a go at using the water hose. One of the firefighters thought it was funny to spray us with water too! 

Richard Lawrence, a nurse and resuscitation instructor, brought in his manikin, Annie, to teach us some first aid and how to do chest compressions. It was really hard work! 

Tia Warland, a nurse who specialises in neonatal care, brought in a crocheted baby to show us how small the babies are that she cares for. She showed us how to apply bandages and we practised bandaging each other. 

Nick O'Dwyer, a custody officer for the police, told us that excellent communication is very important in his job and that he had to do self-defence training. He showed us the handcuffs he uses which we all enjoyed using. 

A big thank you to our local heroes for giving up their time to teach us some important facts about their jobs.

Both teams showed off their skills and teamwork and with only 12 points between them -congratulations go to Felbridge 1 for winning the event! We had so much fun, and the children represented the school superbly with their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm. Well done Toucans!

The children then turned into the politicians of the time, thinking about what choices they would make and how to become great rulers. Writing was next on the busy agenda and the children learnt to use ink on papyrus, using the very complicated Greek alphabet. To finish the day there was a game of 5 lines, which the children felt was a cross between chess and checkers. The whole day was great and it was very sad to see it end. We hope you have heard all about it from your children.

We enjoyed a really exciting science show learning about how rockets launch into space, infra-red technology and life on board the International Space Station. We were really lucky that the sun was shining all day so we could explore the interactive discovery park and we also had a tour of two of their telescope domes.  We couldn't believe how enormous the telescopes were and have so much new knowledge about the work that astronomers carry out. It was a wonderful day out!

The children were amazing considering some had never participated in a gala before.

Anja came third overall in the 50m heat and Freddie and Alina both qualified for the final 25m final. Alina swam an amazing race and came first!

Out of the 11 schools who participated, we came 8th - a very impressive achievement.

Thank you to Mrs Black for organising the event on our behalf and to Mrs Bodey who supported Mrs Black and the children during the evening.

]]> Sun, 18 May 2025 21:53:19 GMT https://www.felbridgetlt.co.uk/news/?pid=9&nid=1&storyid=16 <![CDATA[ New Age Kurling (Yes, it’s Kurling with a K!) ]]> https://www.felbridgetlt.co.uk/news/?pid=9&nid=1&storyid=17 On Wednesday morning, a group of Year 4 went to Warlingham School to try out New Age Kurling.  We were taught how to 'throw' the stones by bending down and pushing the stones across the floor (They were on wheels... not ice!).  It took a few attempts to get the feel of them, but soon we were all landing them on the target!  We also had a go at some games to practise our throwing accuracy - balls and bean bags into hoops and ten pin bowling.  We had a great morning showing off our teamwork skills and we learnt a new skill too!

We were lucky enough to have a clear night and could clearly see planets, satellites, nebulas, constellations and much, much more. Tom was informative, fun and incredibly knowledgeable; we all learnt loads! We finished the evening with delicious hot chocolate and biscuits - a brilliant evening was enjoyed by all.
